You're probably wondering how the allergy testing turned out. They tested Drake for 48 different environmental things, and then for some foods, too. They gave us the environmental results right away, but we have to wait 2 weeks for the food ones. The food ones are done by a blood draw so it takes longer.
If he wasn't allergic to a certain thing, they just wrote negative next to it, but if he was, then they put a # next to it. He told us that 5's or 7's are on the lower side and anything above that will just bother him all the more. He was allergic to 24 out of the 48 things.
His highest # was 18!!! It was HORSES!! The next highest was an 11, and that was cats. There were a couple of trees and a mold that he was a 9 on, and then he was a 7 on dogs, hogs, more trees and molds and plants, and house dust. There were a few 5's on a couple more trees and then cockroaches!!! (Weird that they even test for that!!) The rest were negative which included ragweed, storage and dust mites, feathers, cultivated corn, soybeans, cattle, and more trees and mold.
His worst time of year will be around May with all of the trees, plants, and mold that he is allergic to. He's never really been around horses except for a few pony rides at the fair but he really didn't touch anything but the saddle. And the only cats he has really ever been around is my sister's 2 cats and he really didn't react. It may be in their saliva, though.
I'm very curious as to how the food allergy results will turn out. I'm hoping there are some significant ones that we can cut out of his diet to relieve some symptoms. That will be much easier than avoiding trees, grass, plants, weeds, and mold! We will see Dr. Dawson in 2 weeks for a follow up and talk about some things we can do. I'm not interested in doing a preventative with him. I want to avoid all the steroids and side effects that come with them. We are, however, back on our Zyrtec....effective immediately!
Poor little guy!!!
