Surgery went great, and we are officially home! It's like he never even had it done, except that he can't stop sticking out his tongue!! He calls it his "new tongue!"
We got to the hospital at 6:45, and he was the third patient of the morning. He hadn't had anything to eat or drink since 8:30 last night, but he never complained or asked for anything once. He got into his gown and climbed up in his bed like a champ!
They turned on Spongebob for him and he watched that and just played his Nintendo DS while he waited patiently to go into surgery.
He did everything the nurse asked him to do with a smile on his face. She told him he was just the best little patient!!
The anesthesiologist brought him the softest, cutest, little stuffed tiger, and he got right up in his arms and went with him! He was smiling, and I was crying! This same anesthesiologist gave him a matching little stuffed bear when he got his tubes put in! We are starting a collection! ;)
It took about an hour for the surgery, the allergy testing, and the recovery. No stitches were needed!!! He was allergic to 24 out of 48 things. We won't know about the food allergies for another 2 weeks. Dr. Dawson also removed one of his tubes that had fallen out and was just laying there. Turns out it was a good thing he did because it was getting a little embedded in the skin where it lay. Steve and I watched the Today Show, and before we knew it he was being wheeled back into his room.
He was a bit crabby when they brought him back to us. He kept saying "I not want to fix my tongue no more!" He didn't like the IV in his arm either. They had a bandage around it to keep it in place, and he wanted it off. They had to wait a bit before they could take it out incase he began throwing up or something. He wanted his new tiger, though.
He was crying off and on and watching The Clone Wars cartoon in between, and at one point Steve asked him "How are you doing now, bud?" and he said "I NOT GOOD!"
Then the nurse said she could take off his bandage and he was happy about that.
But then she took out the IV and told him he had to drink some juice or eat a popsicle and take some Tylenol before he could go home, and he was mad again!
And then he started telling us "I NOT eat a popsicle!" and "I NOT want any medicine!"
So we just left him alone, and he calmed down and asked for juice after a few minutes. It must have tasted good because he didn't stop drinking until it was all gone, and then he took his medicine, and he wanted to go home. We got him dressed and went through the release instructions, and then he told us "My tummy is hungry!"
We went through McDonald's drive thru and got him some breakfast. It was only 10:00 a.m. and we were on our way home already. He kept sticking his tongue out and showing me how far he could get it to come out! He was smiling about it, and it was so cute! When we got home he ate eggs, and sausage, and hashbrowns like it was going out of style! He's talking fine, and he even went outside with daddy for a little bit. We are all so happy that it went well!! All of the nurses, the anesthesiologist, and Dr. Dawson were so amazing and wonderful with Drake! Although he was crabby a bit after surgery he did an overall great job and was our little Champ this morning! And mommy can relax now that it is over!
